Individual O.T and P.T sessions
We provide physical rehabilitation services for people with musculoskeletal and neurological problems from all ages.
O.T: Occupational therapy is a client-centred health profession concerned with promoting health and wellbeing through occupation. The primary goal of occupational therapy is to enable people to participate in the activities of everyday life. Occupational therapists achieve this outcome by working with people and communities to enhance their ability to engage in the occupations they want to, need to, or are expected to do, or by modifying the occupation or the environment to better support their occupational engagement”.(WFOT 2012)
P.T: Physiotherapy provides services to individuals and populations in circumstances where movement and function are, or may be, threatened by ageing, injury, pain, diseases, disorders, conditions or environmental factors. Physiotherapy promotes the active participation in society through the development, maintenance and restoration of health, movement capacity, physical activity and functional ability throughout the lifespan. Physiotherapy services are provided within all the spheres of health & well-being (e.g. health promotion, prevention, habilitation, rehabilitation and palliation) and encompass physical, psychological, emotional, and social factors. Physiotherapy involves the interaction of the physiotherapist with the patient/client including their family, care givers and relevant other health professionals, and communities, in a process that rests on the assessment of movement potential. Group Therapy sessions
CVA classes, Knee OA classes, Back pain classes, Hand functionality classes, weight loss class and scoliosis class are provided to maintain the patient health condition.
Prosthetics and Orthotics
Below the knee, above the knee prosthetics are fabricate for patients with amputations and different devices as AFO, KAFO, DAFO, shoe insoles for people who needs orthotics. The prosthetics and Orthotics shop is the only one in the South of Haiti
Clubfoot Corrections
The program associated with CURE International, develops the only clubfoot program in the south of Haiti.
Delivery of Assistive Devices
The program provides assisted devices to patients and people in the community that need an assisted device such as walkers, crutches, wheelchairs and PET carts. The program delivers these materials all over the country.
Referral System
We are the only health facility that specialize in People with Disability. The program has many contacts all over the country were that gives a solution to patients that present with special health conditions
Home Visits and Family Education Program
Home visits are performed to create changes in the patient context that can increase their autonomy and their quality of life.
Training for national rehabilitation technicians
Once a week national staff are trained in different rehabilitation topics and seminars are held for other organizations in the south. (eg. orphanages staff)
Outreach
Support the amputee soccer team from Les Cayes
The program supports the team giving logistical and financial support.
Vocational training – Scholarships
The objective is to increase the financial income to people with disabilities through vocational activities. Scholarships: We support low income families of children with disabilities by providing school scholarships.
Special events in the community
Different activities are organized to increase the visibility in the community of people with disabilities (International day of people with disabilities, day at the beach, flag day, etc.)
Mobile clinics
Many people in Haiti are unaware about therapy services and their benefits , the Advantage program come up to those communities that don’t have access to rehabilitation facilities
High blood pressure screenings and stroke prevention program
The program performs HBP screening in the community to prevent future strokes; provide education sessions in diabetes and HBP; pre and post-natal care.
Trainings for people with disability and the general community on Rights of people with disability and disability issues
The program works for educating the population in order to increase the integration of people with disabilities in daily life.
Support to 2 orphanages with children with disabilities, one in Les Cayes and St Francois D’Assise at Ile a Vache
Training the staff and individual therapy session are performed by the staff of the Advantage program. The first orphanage has 60 kids and the second one 28 kids with special needs.
