FONTEN supports two orphanages, one in Les Cayes and the other St Francois D’Assise on Ile a Vache. The first orphanage has 60 kids and the second one 28 kids with special needs. FONTEN’s involvement is two-fold; individual therapy session are provided for the children while orphanage staff are trained by Tous Ensemble professionals to promote best practice in working with children with disabilities and to improve day to day care for these children. Isle a Vache is an island about 45 mins by boat from Les Cayes, the city where the other orphanage and our clinic are located. Due to restrictions on our budget we have had to significantly reduce the frequency we go to the orphanages. If we were able to increase resource capacity and add permanent rehabilitation professionals we will be able to re-instate this program as a regular operation and grow our relationships with these orphanages.
