Haitian Professional Training:
Haitian professionals in rehabilitation technician programs and (starting this year) physiotherapy and occupational therapy programs, come to FONTEN for clinical placements – learning therapy and getting a chance to develop skills they have studied in the classroom while learning from and supported by experienced professionals.
We are very excited to continue developing our relationships with the two Haitian schools for physiotherapy Faculté des Sciences de Réhabilitation de Léogâne (FSRL) and UNIFA, both new and graduating the first classes of Haitian trained physiotherapists in 2018 and 2019 respectively! FONTEN’s staff and professional international volunteers have participated with the Haitian schools as guest lecturers and welcomed students in the clinic and with some of our outreach programs.

UNIFA PT students with FONTEN Director and PT/OT long-term volunteers.
International physiotherapy students from New York Medical College and the University of British Columbia (Canada), have done 2-6 week clinical placements with FONTEN, earning credit in their programs. Chilean Kinesiologia (physiotherapy) students have also come to learn and volunteer. Interested applicants can get more information here.
Continuing Education:
Once a week staff engage in continuing education, training rehabilitation techniques and skills and discussing related topics and concepts. FONTEN does outreach seminars for other organizations in the south (eg. orphanage staff) to improve understanding of various conditions and best practice for working with children and persons with disabilities.
